New Futures project seeks farmers interested in exploring new and emerging income opportunities

Kiewa Catchment Landcare Groups and Wodonga Urban Landcare Network are excited to announce our participation in the "New Futures" program, running from April through to December 2025.

This project will develop a comprehensive landscape plan for the Kiewa-Wodonga region, exploring emerging environmental markets (carbon and biodiversity), supply chain sustainability requirements, and other investment opportunities that can create alternative income streams for local farms.

Income diversity reduces risk and creates new possibilities for our farming community, which is why we’re seeking 10 pilot farmers to help us understand the landscape opportunities in our region.

Selected participants will receive a personalized farm assessment using the Regen Farmers Mutual model to explore options for their property and potential investment opportunities, with support from ANU Sustainable Farms and Landscape Finance Lab for evaluation and financial modeling.

Individual farm information will help identify broader patterns and investment options that could benefit the entire Kiewa-Wodonga landscape.

If you’re interested in exploring ways to diversify your farm income, please submit your Expression of Interest to become one of our pilot farmers.

Hilltops and Birds walk, On Country, at Susan Campbell Reserve

What a treat! We loved exploring this urban hilltop reserve with the help of our generous prensenters, including insights into Aboriginal culture and knowledge and into urban birds and habitats.

Enjoy a 'taste' in our report featuring Uncles Al Murray and Phil Murray from Duduroa Dhargal Aboriginal Corporation and Ben Humphries from BirdLife Australia.

Habitat Open Garden

Big thanks to Sue and Brian for hosting a fabulous open garden at Table Top to celebrate and share the ways their garden provides habitat for wildlife, as a Gardens for Wildlife Albury-Wodonga event.

The weather was stunning, the birds were singing and attendees were delighted. Sue and Brian were incredibly generous sharing their story and knowledge throughout the day. As well as enhancing habitat on their own property, it was a great example of considering wider connections for wildlife - in this case to the adjoining bushland reserve.

Members of the Australian Plants Society Albury-Wodonga provided advice on species to plant and had several on hand for people to purchase to start or continue their planting journey.

Thank you to all our volunteers, support from Albury City Council and Wodonga Urban Landcare Network, and most importantly, to Sue and Brian for making the day possible 🌱
