2024 Overview:
The year 2024 brought favorable weather conditions, allowing the Clyde Cameron Reserve Landcare Group to maintain the park with relative ease. Our efforts focused on various conservation activities aimed at preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the reserve.
Terms 1 and 2:
During the first half of the year, we were fortunate to receive valuable assistance from students at the Catholic College. Every Monday morning, these willing volunteers joined us at the reserve to contribute to essential tasks such as weeding, cardboarding, mulching, watering, and planting grasses, bushes, and trees. Their contribution was invaluable in helping to restore and enhance the reserve’s natural habitat.
Terms 3 and 4:
Unfortunately, due to health concerns and travel commitments among our aging members, we were unable to continue working with the students in Terms 3 and 4. This highlights an ongoing challenge for our group—the need for new members. Our core group continued our weekly Monday sessions, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the reserve’s upkeep.
Throughout the year, we successfully planted, protected with cardboard, and mulched an impressive 1,150 plants, significantly enhancing the reserve’s biodiversity and ecological value. This achievement aligns with broader regional efforts to increase the uptake of climate-ready plant species and improve planting techniques across Wodonga. Some members do tip runs with the weeds and prunings to keep the park looking tidy. We also clear the paths from debris.
Recruitment Challenges:
While we receive plenty of encouragement from passersby who commend our efforts, we have yet to see this translate into hands-on support. Recruiting new volunteers remains a critical issue for our group. We encourage anyone interested in contributing to the preservation of Clyde Cameron Reserve to consider joining our dedicated team.
Looking Ahead:
As we look to the future, we aim to develop strategies to engage new members and ensure the long-term sustainability of our conservation work. As we reflect on the past year, we are grateful for the support we received and the progress we made. However, we recognize the need for continued community engagement and recruitment to ensure the long-term sustainability of our efforts. We look forward to welcoming new members who share our passion for environmental conservation and are eager to make a positive impact on our local ecosystem.
Thank you to all who have supported the Clyde Cameron Reserve Landcare Group in 2024. Together, we can continue to protect and enhance this valuable natural resource for future generations.
