Integrated Rabbit Control Workshop

Saturday 24 May @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Rabbits are one of Australia’s most significant pest species. They compete directly with our native wildlife, damage vegetation and impact our agricultural industry – all issues we see in our local area.

Wodonga Urban Landcare Network in partnership with the Victorian Rabbit Action Network is delivering a workshop on ‘Integrated Rabbit Control’ to engage and educate local landholders on this pest species, and to explore best practice control methods in peri urban landscapes.

The workshop will be delivered by expert, Neil Devanny (Deputy Chair) of the Victorian Rabbit Action Network and will be split into two sessions.

The first session is theory based and will focus on:

  • History, biology, behaviour
  • Impacts on the environment and biodiversity
  • Proven integrated management
  • Collaboration and landscape approach
  • Importance of humane and legal practice

The second session will include a field session for:

  • Identifying signs of rabbits (and other possible pest species)
  • Demonstration of control techniques such as fumigation
  • Assessing management options

If you are involved in Landcare, have production land, a hobby farm, a block of land with rabbits or if you are interested in learning about what you can do to combat rabbits locally, this workshop should not be missed!

This event is our first in our Partnership Against Pests workshop series ‘Growing capacity against invasives on small blocks’. We will be hosting five more events this year on pigs, foxes, woody weeds, herbaceous weeds and blackberries.

The ‘Growing capacity against invasives on small blocks’ project is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships Against Pests program.
