We hope the recent rain is a positive for all the planting efforts scheduled for June and July. With Project Sprout now kicking off, preparations and promotion are keeping everyone busy – all these efforts are greatly appreciated.

New Groups join the Network
Further to the previous update, WULN continues to support the volunteer activities and legacy of Parklands Albury Wodonga (news item). A new volunteer stewardship group, the Friends of the Murray River, has recently formed to carry on land management work along the Murray River and its tributary corridors.
The group will run regular stewardship activities on land previously managed by Parklands, including woody weed removal, fencing, revegetation, and ongoing maintenance. For details or to get involved see their events on their group page or keep an eye on WULN’s Facebook page and event listings.
We also welcome Tallangatta Rail Trail Advisory Group as a new member of the network. This accomplished group works on the High Country Rail Trail between the Sandy Creek Inlet and Shelley. Their current work focuses on bushfire recovery, reinstating fences on private land adjoining the trail and working towards replacing interpretive signs that were lost to the fires. Upcoming working bees can be viewed via their group listing.
And one more for this month with the announcement that Wodonga Heart Football Club has joined the WULN network as an associate member!

Unincorporated WULN groups and their members
For those whose individual or household membership is due for renewal by 1 July, please keep an eye out for an email in the next week with your renewal advice and payment options. Group coordinators will receive updates later in July from Lily, confirming memberships of their group.
Healing Huon Creek – Rehabilitation Plan
A new technical report, the Huon Creek WREN Rehabilitation Plan, is now available via website.
The report outlines plans for restoration work at Wodonga Retained Environment Network reserve A3A on Huon Creek, including erosion control, fencing repairs, and community planting and engagement days. The project also aims to enhance biodiversity and wildlife corridor connectivity, while engaging local residents in the health of their waterways. This WULN-led project is supported by Victorian Landcare Grant funding and enables the continued implementation of the Wodonga Regional Waterway Action Plan across Wodonga’s waterways. There are two planting events at this site as part of Project Sprout.

Victorian Waterway Management Strategy Consultation
Waterways, wetlands and the Murray River are such an intergral part of our community in Wodonga supporting biodiversity in urban areas, cooling our cities, providing us recreational opportunities and enhancing our health and wellbeing.
Consultation has just opened for the third Victorian Waterway Management Strategy, developed by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), which aims to guide how we will care for waterways over the next decade, while balancing the many ways Victorians use and value them.
We encourage you to check out the draft plan and have your say!
WULN is part of a Landcare Victoria working group that will also make a submission to this consultation.
