From the Facilitator – 2 June

Hello Members, Staff, Board and Associate Members,

Winter is here and we are hurtling toward the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year!! There is a flurry of activity in Wodonga and right across the North East as Council, environmental groups, schools, private property owners and  Landcare volunteers all prepare for winter plantings. There is no doubt that 2025 has delivered a tougher season than the last three wet years, however with care and maintenance there is no reason that our winter plantings can’t still be successful.

Project Sprout and planting event updates

Thank you to all the group coordinators and members for your assistance with logistics for Project Sprout.

We launched Project Sprout at our recent event Trees, climate resilience and urban landscapes presented by Dr Greg Moore. Dr Moore was Principal of Burnley College of the Institute of Land Food Resources at Melbourne University from 1988 to 2007 and a Senior Lecturer and Lecturer in Plant Science and Arboriculture from 1979 Greg gave an entertaining and thought provoking presentation which was a fantastic call to action for Project Sprout.

Project Sprout is now live.

I am asking that all WULN group members to please register your intention to come along to one (or more) plantings here. Event registrations (Humanitix). Please also share with your family , friends and neighbours. For more information on the project check out Project Sprout news

I hope to see you at a planting event on your patch this month!

Membership process updates

As discussed at the recent Operations meeting and with group coordinators in recent months, we are in the process of updating WULN membership payment methods and processes. The new systems will provide efficiency for staff, group coordinators and members, reducing the administrative load.

With the many changes in the last year, including the structure of groups within the network and the related reporting for Landcare Victoria membership and census, as well as the Victorian Landcare program, we understand there has been a lot going on.

WULN’s support for membership reminders and renewals will include:

Unincorporated WULN groups and their members

  • WULN staff will manage membership reminders and renewals for existing members.
  • Existing individual and household memberships of unincorporated groups are due for renewal, most by 1 July.
  • Members will be contacted directly and encouraged to renew their membship ($20, 1 year).
  • Coordinators will be provided updates in July confirming memberships of their group.
  • WULN will also manage group membership payments on behalf of these groups, including Landcare Victoria (LVI) insurance and liaison.

Please understand we are working to update our processes and that this is a different approach to past membership renewals.
In the next week, please keep an eye out for an email with your individual/household membership renewal advice and payment options.

Unincorporated groups can elect to manage their own memberships/renewals – please contact Jo asap if you prefer to do this.

Incorporated WULN groups and Associate members

  • These groups have always managed their own membership and insurance arrangements and continue to do so.
  • These groups will receive an invoice for membership renewal as a group within the Network for the 2025-2026 financial year.
