From the Facilitator – 25 August

Hello Members, Staff, Board and Associate Members,

We have a couple of key events coming up to build capacity on land management which I strongly encouraging our group members to attend if they can!

  1. Climate Resilient Garden Tour at Wirraminna on the 27th September 9-11am. Explore climate resilient native species which can be considered in your patch plantings. More information here
  2. Herbaceous Weeds Workshop: Saturday 20th September, Leneva Hall.10am-1pm. A practical workshop designed to help tackle herbaceous weeds effectively. Learn how to identify priority species and apply proven control techniques. More information here
  3. African Lovegrass ID and removal workshop: Tuesday 23rd September 9.30-11.30 Kent McKoy Reserve. African Lovegrass is an emerging weed in Wodonga. Come along to learn how to identify this weed, as well as for strategies to control it. More information here

 

Project Sprout- Branching Out 2026.

Coordinators if you have not yet provided your plant numbers for 2026, you have until COB Wednesday 27th of August (Yes, thats tomorrow!).

Plant orders. I will be sending out plant order forms tomorrow so groups can start preparing their plant lists. We have a new system for ordering this year so please reach out if you need assistance.

Board News

At our August meeting we considered and approved an application for membership from residents living at Elmwood. They operate a community garden and have plans to investigate biodiversity enhancements in their public and private spaces. We look forward to hearing about their efforts and successes as a new group Friends of Elmwood.

WULN’s AGM will be held on Sunday 19 October. Ahead of the meeting, we will hold a Special Meeting at which two Special Resolutions will be put to members for consideration. Details about the Special Meeting and the AGM will be sent soon. We look forward to seeing you on the day.
The merger negotiations between WULN and ONG are progressing. If you have any questions, please read the Q&A here and/or contact Julie on 0429 445536.
