Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group volunteers work diligently on the management, maintenance, marketing and development of the rail trail corridor and works in collaboration with Tallangatta Rail Trail Advisory Group and Koetong-Shelley Development Association. This active group was established as a result of a public meeting in 2000 and has been instrumental in the realisation of the High Country Rail Trail. Historically the group also worked closely with Parklands Albury Wodonga.
The degraded and inaccessible disused railway corridor between the Kiewa River and Sandy Creek Inlet is now a popular multi-purpose recreational trail. Former railway platforms at Bonegilla Siding, Ebden and Huon Reserve have been restored and a significant volume of planting undertaken by volunteers to improve biodiversity and outcompete weeds.
The group holds regular planning meetings and working bees as well as coordinating popular events such as the “Whistle Stop High Tea”.
Monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm at Bonegilla Community Hall, Murray Valley Hwy, Bonegilla. New members welcome.
Monthly working bees are generally the Saturday morning after the Monday meeting.
