In April 2025 the Kiewa Catchment Landcare Group (KCLG) & Wodonga Urban Landcare Network (WULN) were selected to join the New Futures Program, becoming one of four pilot regions in Victoria.
As a collective, KCLG and WULN have supported the development of a community led investment-ready landscape plan for the Kiewa-Wodonga area.
Our plan outlines four interconnected opportunities which are designed to secure investment that supports productivity, the ongoing protection and restoration of the landscape and secures new and diversified revenue opportunities for our farming community and for Landcare and links our rural and urban communities.
Our plan was created through the participation of landholders, a committed working group, key partners, agencies and the wider community in assessing established and emerging investment markets including environmental markets (carbon and biodiversity), supply chain (sustainability requirements and reporting), grants and philanthropy and the local economy (procurement, value chain, new business, multiple land use) all of which are seeking high-quality projects.
The program explored alternatives to the business-as-usual approaches to natural resource management and sustainable agriculture with a view to unlocking emerging investment markets and new or diversified funding streams for our farming community and for Landcare.
From Alpine peaks to the Murray River confluence, the Kiewa-Wodonga landscape offers a unique opportunity to prove that agicultural productivity, environmental restoration and community can advance together.

This pilot of the New Futures for Victorian Landcare project is hosted by Kiewa Catchment Landcare Groups and Wodonga Urban Landcare Network.
