With beautiful sunshine (after frosty starts) and loads of enthusiasm Friends of David Winterbottom Park held community planting days on Friday 21st June and Sunday 23rd June along Huon Creek in Wodonga. Approximately 600 tubestock were planted by the small team.
In time these native plants will enhance the biodiversity of the area, creating food and shelter for wildlife and improving the bank stability and water quality. While the environmental benefits are huge, the social and mental health benefits of having a beautiful place to recreate are also critical as Wodonga grows and the pace of life increases.
It was also great to see community connections created and strengthened as friends old and new come together for these events.
If you would like to help contribute to your community, meet new people and do something wonderful for the environment, come along to one of the many planting season events offered across Wodonga by Landcare and Friends’ groups and other organisations.
This event was made possible through funding from the Australian Government, Murray-Darling Healthy Rivers Program.
