Work has begun on a native sensory garden at Parklands’ Leneva Enviro Hub. The small but enthusiastic group of Parklands rangers and volunteers made the most of a beautiful winter morning to get the plants into the ground.
These particular plants were chosen for a variety of different characteristics, to excite different senses as you move through the space. Think flowers bright with colour, plants with edible berries or fragrant leaves, or those with textured foliage. Some of the plants chosen for the project, and planted by the Parklands rangers and volunteers, included billy buttons, tea tree, mint bush, yam daisy, and kangaroo apple.
Parklands rangers hope that once the native sensory garden is established, people of all ages will be encouraged to get up close and really get to know some of our local native species and what makes them so special, including their traditional uses.
This native sensory garden is just a small part of what Parklands has planned as part of its Nature Play Trails, in various locations, and with more to come at the Leneva Enviro Hub.
