Spring is finally here! I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather and longer days.
Spring is also the season for weeds! It’s wise to remain vigilant and if you see something new or out of place then get it identified in case its a weed! If weeds are tackled early they can be eradicated. If left to seed they can remain a problem for many years to come. Remember the mantra…. one years seeding = seven years weeding!
We have two great events coming up to support volunteers in identifying and managing weeds. The Herbaceous weed workshop is this coming Saturday the 20th September and the African Lovegrass ID and control event is Tuesday 23rd September. In sad news we are farewelling Rhiannon at the end of this month. Rhi has been with us for 12 months and has capably taken on the Gardens 4 Wildlife Program funded by both Victorian Landcare Grant and Albury City Council funding as well as the Partnerships against Pests project. Sadly the lack of stability with Landcare funding was no match for the offer of a new permanent full time role. We wish you well Rhi in your new position at the Biodiversity Conservation Trust.
I am continuing to work through patch plans with each group. We are rocking along and I hope to have the majority of plans completed by Christmas! If you have not heard from me yet, please don’t panic I will be in contact soon!
Baranduda Fields – call out for donations
In exciting news we have had Council handover the Baranduda Fields office to WULN! We are starting to procure items thanks to grants from the Stronger Communities Fund (Helen Haines) and the Border Trust Community Grant. However, we will not have enough funding to purchase every item needed to get the site up and running. We are seeking donations of the following items. If you can assist or have anything that you feel may be useful for the new office, please email Lily
- crockery (plates, cups, platters, glass wear etc)
- cutlery and kitchen utensils
- vacuum cleaner
- pots, pans, baking trays
- lunch room table and chairs
- bookcase(s)
- office draw units
- step ladder
- 1x office chair
Plant orders for 2026!
I have submitted a grant application to the BUPA/ Landcare Australia Healthy Cities program for Project Sprout 2: Branching Out. Despite the fact we have not yet secured funding I am ploughing on with organising plant orders.
Coordinators were sent instructions on the 1st September on how to place your order. Please have all orders submitted by folloing the instructions provided by 31st October. If you did not receive this email or need assistance then please get in contact with me.
