From the Facilitator – 19 May

Hello Members, Staff, Board and Associate Members,

As we head into a very dry winter it is clear that it is going to be a tough planting season here in Wodonga and right across Victoria and Southern NSW. With our BUPA – Project Sprout planting coming up I encourage all coordinators to come along to the Operational Committee meeting on the 25th May and discuss collaboratively the planting week and how we best manage the tough conditions.

Welcoming Lily and preparing to farewell Heather- admin support

Many of you may be aware that Heather Davies will be retiring from her role as WULN admin support at the EOFY. Heather has been a Landcare volunteer with Friends of Federation Hill, Clyde Cameron Reserve group and Friends of Willow Park as well as the volunteer WULN Secretary. More recently she has drawn on her horticulture and education skills and supported Friends of Lou Lieberman in a voluntary capacity with running events including pruning demonstrations and selection of native plants. Heather also provided valuable support to the Committee for many years as the WULN admin support officer in a paid capacity. Heather will be continuing her volunteer work with Landcare but we are planning a farewell for Heather as she finishes up in her admin support role and volunteer secretary role. Further details to be announced in upcoming network updates.

Lily Neyland commenced onboarding with WULN as the new admin support a week ago and has grown up in Tasmania, surrounded by bush. Lily has recently moved to Albury to pursue a Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management at Charles Sturt University. She has been active with both Bushcare and Landcare in Tasmania, and is excited to be joining the WULN team, both in an admin capacity as well as getting involved as a volunteer and getting her hands dirty. Lily has a particular passion for weeds, and has enjoyed participating in remote weeding trips in Tasmania. She is keen to learn more about both native and invasive plant species here on the mainland. In her free time, you’ll often find her bushwalking or camping with friends and family, so she is looking forward to exploring more of the nearby national parks and reserves. Please join me in welcoming Lily to the WULN team.

 

Reminder For Coordinators: Operational Committee Meeting, 25 May

Following on from the inaugural Operational Committee Meeting in February, this quarter’s catch up is on Sunday 25th of May, at Hyphen Library Wodonga, 10.30am-12.30pm.

As you may recall, the Operational Committee Meeting is an opportunity for all group Coordinators (or another group representative) to catch up with one another and the Facilitator. These meetings have been scheduled to occur ahead of the quarterly catchups the Network Facilitator has with Wodonga Council, with that timing allowing any relevant issues to be relayed from the operations meeting to the council catchup.

Coordinators, an agenda will be sent out shortly and I am happy to add any items you would like to discuss. please RSVP to Jo for catering purposes and with any additional agenda items.
