Hello Members, Staff, Board and Associate Members,
We hope you had a good Easter and are perhaps extending your time with friends, family or outdoors for the ANZAC Day long weekend.
There are couple of notes below to keep you updated on some network news and matters.
These include some date changes, for the Wirraminna visit event and the May operations subcommittee meeting.
Other announcements and upcoming WULN events are, as usual, also included in this update.
We hope you’ll take a read through them all.
Project SPROUT plantings update
Thanks to group coordinators who have nominated dates for their planting sessions within our Wodonga community-wide planting efforts as part of Project SPROUT.
We’re excited to be able to coordinate our planting efforts and community engagement across Wodonga this planting season as a part of this initiative, funded by BUPA through Landcare Australia’s grants program.
A reminder we’re looking to run a number of planting events between 21-29 June, which will include some group patches and wider community events.
We’re collaborating with Wodonga Council to plant on council managed land and we anticipate promoting these planting opportunities will attract community members to join in. WULN members are encouraged participate in either “their” group’s planting efforts and/or to come along to another planting activity in Wodonga.
The events schedule is taking shape and so too the scheduling of equipment to support our efforts across Wodonga during this blitz.
Any groups who haven’t yet nominated a date to host a planting session within this period on their patch, and would like to, should contact Rhiannon.
Climate Resilient Garden Tour to Wirraminna – postponed
The ‘G4W at Wirraminna – Climate Resilient Garden Tour‘ has been postponed to avoid several event clashes that meant WULN members were unavailable to attend. Yes, including the Federal election!
This visit to Wirraminna, coordinated by Gardens for Wildlife Albury-Wodonga and WULN as part of a Victorian Landcare Grant, seeks to engage and empower our local Landcare groups, volunteers and leaders – it’s information to help guide what you’re doing in your patch and as part of your group activities. What can we learn that may help to “future proof” our planting choices and efforts in a changing climate?
We want to encourage discussion, build knowledge and and inform our planting practices going forward to build resilience into our landscapes into the future.
It is also a fantastic opportunity to visit the incredible Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre, see their informative and beautiful grounds, learn from our host and volunteer, Judy Frankenberg, and enjoy a morning out!
Stay tuned for a new date for this event.
For Coordinators – Operational Committee Meeting, 25 May
Following on from the inaugural Operational Committee Meeting in February, this quarter’s catch up was scheduled for Sunday 18th May.
Please note it has been rescheduled for Sunday 25th of May, still at Hyphen Library Wodonga, 10.30am-12.30pm.
As you may recall, the Operational Committee Meeting is an opportunity for all group Coordinators (or another group representative) to catch up with one another and the Facilitator. These meetings have been scheduled to occur ahead of the quarterly catchups the Network Facilitator has with Wodonga Council, with that timing allowing any relevant issues to be relayed from the operations meeting to the council catchup.
Coordinators, please RSVP to Jo for catering purposes.
Reminder: Facilitator on leave
Jo is on leave and will be returning to Landcare work on Monday 5th May.
Facilitator tasks and responsibilities are being shared between Karen Retra (1 day a week) and Rhiannon Khoury (2.5 days a week) during this time.
The network-facilitator@wodongalandcare.org.au email account is being monitored during Jo’s absence.
Alternatively, Rhiannon and Karen can be contacted directly via:
